Tips for Marketing a Small Business

Updated: Feb 7, 2022

As a business owner, you've juggled it all. From payroll to sales, to customer service, to handy man, to office admin- the job is multi-faceted. Then, when you feel like you've tackled it all- someone mentions that they haven't heard of what you've been working so hard to build. You've realized that it's time to start marketing, but aren't sure where to start and it seems overwhelming.

There are dozens of tasks you could take on when marketing your business. But we've narrowed it down to three simple places to start:

1. Develop a website that represents your brand.

Branding doesn’t end with a cool business name and fancy logo, your brand is everything your business stands for, doesn’t stand for, and the story you’re telling in every message you send. A great place to showcase this is on your website. Plus, your website doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. There are some great user-friendly website builders that can get you started. Plus, many agencies (LIKE US) have custom website packages starting under $1,000.

2. Establish more of an online presence through Google My Business.

Many business owners aren't aware that this is the ticket to having your business listed on Google Maps as well as within local business search. The set up is easy and it's important to full in your business contact information and website. This will be an easy way to help market your small business online and have new potential customers find you.

3. Start advertising.

This two-word sentence may seem overwhelming. Don't worry, we are going to give you simple steps for where to start. First, who is your ideal customer? Second, where does that ideal customer consume content? After both of those questions are answered, you can reach out to the local media outlets to help place the advertisements for you. What people don't realize is that using an agency to place ads is more cost efficient than going directly to the media outlet. Don't be afraid to reach out and ask questions regarding what the cost should be, or where they recommend placing ads based on your ideal customer.
